4 ways to check Galaxy Buds Live battery level

When using (or planning to use) the earbuds for an extended period, you may want to know Galaxy Buds Live battery level to see whether you need to charge it now for continuous usage in the next few hours.

This Galaxy Buds Live guide explains 4 different ways to check Galaxy Buds Live battery level and the charging case battery level in both Android and iOS devices, including:

  1. Using Galaxy Wearable app (or Samsung Galaxy Buds app on iOS).
  2. Using LED colours in the charging case..
  3. From Bluetooth settings in Android devices.
  4. Using Galaxy Buds Live widget on Android devices (or the Battery widget in iOS devices).

Method 1: Check Galaxy Buds Live battery level and charging case battery level in Galaxy Wearable app (or Galaxy Buds app on iOS)

As explained in this guide, you can manage and customize Galaxy Buds Live in the Galaxy Wearable app (with the Galaxy Buds Live plugin).

In the app, you can also check the battery level of Galaxy Buds Live and the charging case, as shown in the screenshot below.

For example, as shown in the screenshot below, the L and R earbuds are fully charged (100%). The charging case has 55% battery left.

On iOS devices, the corresponding app is the Samsung Galaxy Buds app. You can find similar information, as shown in the screenshot below.

Of course, you can check the battery level of Galaxy Buds Live in the app only when the buds are connected to the device.

Method 2: Estimate Galaxy Buds Live battery level and charging case battery level from LED colours

If the buds are not connected to any devices, the only way to estimate Galaxy Buds Live battery level and charging case battery level is through the LED light colours.

When you open the charging case, the earbud battery indicator LED, as shown below, will light up automatically with 2 possible colours.

The LED light does not tell you exactly the better level. Instead, it tells you the charging “status” of the buds:

  • Green. It means the buds are fully charged.
  • Red. It means the buds are being charged.
  • Flashing red, if charging is blocked due to abnormal temperatures.
  • No light. It means the buds run out of battery. Besides, the LED will not light up if the buds are not placed properly or the charging contacts on the buds (or on the charging case) are very dirty.

The earbud battery indicator light only tells the battery status of the earbuds, not the charging case.

To use the LED colour to estimate the battery level of the charging case, you need to check the charging case battery indicator light, as shown below.

Please note, the charging case battery indicator LED lights up only when you open and then close the case. It will light up about 5 seconds after you close the case (unless you are charging the case).

When the case is NOT being charged, the meaning of the charging case LED colours:

  • Green. It means the battery level of the charging case is higher than 60% (high).
  • Yellow. It means the battery level is roughly in the range of 30%-59%
    (moderate).
  • Red. It means the battery level of the charging ase is roughly in the range of 10%-29% (low). You should consider charging the case if possible.
  • Flashing red. It means the charging case battery level is less than 10%. You should charge the charging case if you want to use the Galaxy Buds Live uninterrupted (the charging case may not be able to charge the buds fully).

When you are charging the case, as explained in this guide, the LED colour will be either red (charging) or green (fully charged). And the light stays on as long as the charger is connected.

Method 3: Check Galaxy Buds Live battery level from Bluetooth settings on Android devices

After installing the Galaxy Wearable app (and Galaxy Buds Live plugin) on Android devices, in addition to managing and customising the Galaxy Buds Live in the app, you can turn on/off some features of the buds and check Galaxy Buds Live battery level from Bluetooth settings without opening the app.

For example, in the Bluetooth settings in Galaxy S20, as shown in the screenshot below, you can tap the gear (settings) icon next to Galaxy Buds Live to manage the buds and check the battery level of the Galaxy Buds Live and the charging case.

Bluetooth settings in Android

As shown below, in the Bluetooth settings for Galaxy Buds Live, you can turn on and off some features quickly without using the Galaxy Wearable app.

Manage Galaxy Buds Live in Bluetooth settings in Android

In Android Oreo (Android 8.0) and later versions of Android, you can also display the battery level of the connected Bluetooth battery level without installing any apps. Of course, this is limited to the battery level of the buds, not the charging case.

The battery level of Galaxy Buds Live can also be displayed in the quick settings, as shown below.

Mathod 4: Check Galaxy Buds Live battery level and charging case battery level with a Widget on Android and iOS devices

On Android and iOS devices, you can also use widgets to display the battery status of Galaxy Buds Live.

In Android, Galaxy Buds Live offers two widgets. One is for quick control, and the other is for the battery level.

For example, as shown in the screenshot below, the Galaxy Buds Live widget on the Galaxy S21 Home screen displays the battery level of both Galaxy Buds Live and the charging case. You may check this guide on how to use widgets on Galaxy S21.

On iPhone with iOS 14 or later, you can use the generic Battery widget to show the battery level of the phone and all connected devices, including Galaxy Buds Live. The widget has two designs.

As shown in the screenshot below, the exact battery level of Galaxy Buds live is displayed in the two designs.

Please note, the Battery widget on iOS cannot display the battery level of the charging case for Galaxy Buds Live. For AirPods, including AirPods, AirPods 2, AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro, the battery level of both the buds and the charging case can be displayed in the Battery widget.
